How to make a Fencha latte

  • by

We love Fencha because it’s a versatile product. While with our friend Erin a few weeks ago, we got a great response to drinking Fencha as a cold shot, a hot cuppa and as an energy boost for orange juice – as well as the espresso-style shot we feature in our introduction video. Flagging a bit on a Friday afternoon, we wondered if Fencha would work well as a latte – and it really does! In the above picture we took after a fast prep that took around two minutes (without the use of a milk frother), we reckon it looks like a latte and is on a similar taste scale as well – a bit of a surprise if you’re used to the strong hit from the shot. Here’s how to make it:

What you need:

  • A generous half teaspoon of Fencha No 1
  • 60-100ml warm water
  • ¾ mug or cup of milk of your choice – cow’s, soya, almond – it’s up to you
  • Sweetener to taste – honey, sugar, fruit syrup, etc.
  • A milk frother – either a whisk version or from an espresso machine

How to make it:

  • Prepare your Fencha No 1 as if you were making a shot – add the stoneground tea to your water and shake or stir thoroughly to mix. Leave to one side.
  • Warm the milk however you like, either in a pan or from your espresso machine, which will give you the froth immediately.
  • When the milk is hot, pour it into your mug or cup and if using a whisk milk frother, work up your froth.
  • Pour over the shot of Fencha No 1 and sweeten to taste.

It’s as easy as that! Let us know if you try this and what you think.
